Job Title: Cost Controller
Job Summary
The Cost Controller is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and controlling costs to ensure projects or operations remain within budget. The role involves budget preparation, cost tracking, variance analysis, and financial reporting to support effective decision-making and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project or operational budgets
- Monitor actual costs vs. budget and forecast future costs
- Perform cost variance analysis and provide explanations
- Prepare detailed cost reports (weekly/monthly) for management
- Track commitments, purchase orders, and invoices
- Ensure accurate cost allocation and coding
- Support procurement and contract management processes
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements
- Assist in financial audits and compliance reviews
- Collaborate with project managers, finance teams, and department heads
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) is a plus
Experience
- 3–7 years of experience in cost control, financial analysis, or project accounting
- Experience in industries such as construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, or hospitality is preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of budgeting and forecasting
- Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables)
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
- Good understanding of financial reporting principles
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
