Job Title: Manager - Furniture Costing Estimator

Role Overview
The Costing Manager will be responsible for leading costing and estimation activities for both standard and custom-designed products/projects. This includes product costing, project cost analysis, budget forecasting, and BOM management while ensuring alignment with production, sales, and procurement functions. The role demands strong analytical skills, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to deliver accurate cost insights that drive profitability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Product & Project Costing
- Conduct detailed analysis of product and project costs, including material breakdowns for panel-based and solid wood-based furniture.
- Review client designs, blueprints, technical documents, and project plans to develop accurate cost models, BOQs, and forecasts for new and existing products/projects.
- Prepare and review Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM) based on designs, drawings, or photos.
- Calculate and allocate overhead costs using standard methods, ensuring accuracy across products and services.
- Identify potential cost-overrun factors and propose actionable cost-saving solutions.
- Estimate the average cost of materials including solid woods, veneers, laminates, paints, polishes, marbles, metals, and other furniture components.
- Research and analyze material usage, workability, and limitations for production feasibility.
- Conduct market research to stay updated on material innovations, pricing trends, and substitutes.
- Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure cost alignment with client requirements.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with the Production department to stay updated on manufacturing processes, resource consumption, and cost structures.
- Coordinate across departments to streamline execution and ensure smooth workflows.
BOM & Documentation
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date BOMs for all products, ensuring timely updates for design/material changes.
- Validate material lists provided by the team to prevent shortages or excess procurement.
- Provide procurement teams with precise material requirements for timely purchasing.
- Ensure all team-prepared costings are reviewed and verified for accuracy.
- Maintain detailed records of estimated vs. actual costs for forecasting and historical analysis.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of furniture materials: solid woods, panels (plywood, MDF, particle board), veneers, laminates, paints, polishes, marbles, and metals.
- Ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, and images for material and cost estimation.
- Proficiency in preparing BOQs, BOMs, and cost models.
- Strong analytical, research, and cost benchmarking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes and cost structures.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 5-6 years of experience in furniture costing
- Strong understanding of product costing and manufacturing/production processes.
