Counseling Manager

Department: Crisis Services & Community Programs
Reports To: Vice President of Crisis Services & Community Programs
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary

The Counseling Manager provides clinical oversight, staff supervision, and direct counseling services to individuals, children, and families impacted by sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and other forms of trauma. This position supports the YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all by ensuring the highest quality of trauma-informed care within the organization’s counseling programs.

In addition to maintaining a small clinical caseload, the Counseling Manager collaborates closely with the Vice President of Crisis Services and Community Programs to develop and implement a fee-for-service business model that expands YWCA’s educational and consultation programs for employers and community organizations. This includes training, facilitation, and consultation services designed to help workplaces prevent, identify, and respond appropriately to sexual and domestic violence.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to Limited Licensed staff (LLMSW, LLPC, etc.) and student interns in accordance with state licensure standards.
  • Manage and support 4–5 student interns per year, including orientation, supervision, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Maintain a small caseload offering trauma-informed counseling to individuals, children, and families impacted by sexual and domestic violence.
  • Ensure high standards of confidentiality, ethics, and trauma-informed practice across the counseling program.
  • Participate in quality assurance efforts, case review, and staff training to strengthen service quality and consistency.

Program Development & Business Model Implementation

  • Partner with the VP of Crisis Services and Community Programs to design, pilot, and implement a fee-for-service program that provides mission-based workplace education and consulting.
  • Collaborate on pricing, service definitions, and business development strategies to ensure both sustainability and community impact.
  • Evaluate outcomes and provide feedback to refine the model and enhance reach and effectiveness.

Facilitation, Training, and Employer Engagement

  • Develop and deliver engagement, evidence-based training for employers, community organizations, and professionals on:
  • Understanding and preventing sexual and domestic violence in the workplace.
  • Building trauma-informed and survivor-supportive environments.
  • Responding effectively to disclosures or incidents among employees.
  • Use strong facilitation, sales, and negotiation skills to cultivate partnerships, secure training engagements, and strengthen YWCA’s reputation as a leader in violence prevention education.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related field; clinical licensure (LMSW, LPC, LMFT, LP, or equivalent) required or eligible in Michigan.
  • Approved clinical supervisor or eligible to supervise Limited License practitioners under Michigan law.
  • 5–7 years of direct clinical experience with survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, or related trauma.
  • Experience supervising staff and interns, preferably in a counseling or social services setting.
  • Strong facilitation, training, and negotiation skills with demonstrated success in building external relationships or partnerships.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
  • Commitment to equity, cultural humility, and intersectional practice in all aspects of work.

Schedule and Compensation

  • Full-time schedule.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience and licensure.

Pay: $86,000.00 per year
