POSITION: Court Clerk (PT) SCHEDULE: Part-Time Permanent
31 hours/week M-F
Wednesday Court Attendance is required
DEPARTMENT: Justice Court JOB LOCATION: City Hall 5249 South 400 East, Washington Terrace, Utah
HOURLY PAY RANGE: $ 18.01-25.95 (DOE)
BENEFITS: Retirement plan provided through the Utah Retirement Systems, Paid holiday, sick and vacation leave.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check, including credit check and drug screen.
POSITION: This is an “at-will” classified position working under the direct supervision of the Judge and the Court Clerk Supervisor. Assists in the daily operations of the Washington Terrace/Marriott-Slatterville Court. Performs a variety of complex clerical duties designed to expedite the functions, actions, judgements, processes and procedures associated with the Justice Court. Maintains liaison with correctional facilities, Drivers License Division, Law Enforcement Agencies, Treatment Agencies, City Administration, etc. Performs duties associated with small claims, audit processing, and other duties as required or assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Ø Answers questions on daily basis from individuals, attorneys and a variety of agencies
Ø Coordinates the daily functions of the Justice Court and ongoing maintenance of court records: provides coordination of functions affecting city prosecutor, law enforcement and bailiff.
Ø Attends court and assists Judge with in-court processing of cases.
Ø Ensures accuracy and the completion of all documents, including orders of plea bargains, commitments to jail, stays, referrals to alcohol and drug, anger management, etc. programs, trials and pre-trial notices, continuances, etc. Calls cases, swears in witnesses and marks evidence.
Ø Maintains calendar events, such as trials, pre-trials, sentencing, hearings and motions. Prepares and distributes notice of trials, pre-trials, subpoenas, case materials and defendant instructions.
Ø Receives and logs in citations and formal information.
Ø Collects fines and forfeitures.
Ø Writes receipts, receives money and transmits to appropriate departments or agencies.
Ø Provide concise, correct information and assistance to others in a friendly and helpful manner in person or by telephone.
Ø Performs Procedures on BCI
Ø Assists with BCI, AOC, and City Audits
Ø Maintains all Court and AOC certifications.
MINIMUM TRAINING, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Required
Ø High school graduate or equivalent plus one (1) year of increasingly responsible office experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ø Be able to pass background checks, Reference checks, Drug screen, and Credit check (due to sensitive financial information, handling of city funds, and access to BCI programs).
Ø Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, working knowledge of bookkeeping, office principles and practices, legal and court terminology, filing systems and computerized applications for records filing. Detail oriented.
Ø Ability to learn legal and court document formats; learn criminal and civil law as it applies to court processes.
Ø Ability to work closely with Judge, public, various agencies and city staff.
Ø Required to present themselves in a professional manner, displaying the utmost integrity, discretion, courtesy, cooperation, discipline, and behavior.
Ø Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills.
Ø Must have good time management skills to prioritize workload and adhere to strict deadlines.
Ø Must be able to handle stressful situations, quickly assess, or judge situations, and be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility. Ability to manage angry individuals/unpleasant situations by diffusing or resolving the situation.
Ø Experience in customer service
Preferred
Ø Experience in accounting/cash handling
Ø Experience in legal and court terminology/ local government experience
Ø Experience with Caselle and CORIS
