Job Summary
Under general supervision, the incumbent provides courtroom and facility security. Regularly monitors the interior and exterior of the courthouse, screens all individuals entering the building and directs people to the appropriate areas. The work requires general assistance to the judges and court support staff, including performing clerical duties.
Duties
1. Monitors conditions in the courtroom and surrounding areas to assure compliance with security and safety related policies and procedures.
2. Act as armed security officer at the main security screening station to observe incoming visitors and prevent an armed encounter from entering the building past the screening station.
3. Reviews the court docket and coordinates daily schedules with attorneys, law enforcement, witnesses and other court participants.
4. Provides for protection of jurors and sequesters them as necessary.
5. Assists in the efficient processing of court cases by locating and delivering case files, transporting court documents, calling cases into court and directing parties to the appropriate courtroom.
6. Provides the public with information on specific cases and court policies and procedures.
7. Transports in-custody prisoners between holding cells and courtrooms and supervises the meeting between the attorney and prisoners.
8. Administers drug testing.
9. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance, including attendance at required meetings.
Requirements
· Previous experience in law enforcement is desirable.
· Previous experience in a court is desirable.
· Concealed Pistol License (CPL) required.
· Associate’s degree in criminal justice or two-years of related college level coursework; or, high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and two (2) years of experience in security, law enforcement or closely related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Positions in the class typically require: reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Move and lift objects less than 50 pounds. Operate motor vehicles requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Duties require sufficient mobility and the ability to remain in a stationary (sitting or standing) position for extended periods of time. Year-round outside work, exposure associated with observing probationary defendants carry out work assignments. Must have the physical capacity to guard, escort and control those in-custody.
Pay: $52,297.00 - $62,444.00 per year
