Job Title: Court Reporter
Department: Superior Court
Reports To: Court Administrator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Principal Function: The Court Reporter is responsible for recording and transcribing all Superior Court proceedings and providing administrative support to the Superior Court Judge. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

1.Records Superior Court proceedings with duties to include, but are not limited to: attendance, recording, and transcribing of proceedings; record evidence, objections, rulings, labeling of exhibits and accurate log notes of minute by minute hearings.

2.Perform daily testing on the digital Court recording equipment to ensure systems work properly prior to the start of Court proceedings.

3.Prepares Superior Court orders and during hearings and makes the appropriate minute entries.

4.Acts as the liaison between the Superior Court and other entities to include, but not limited to: attorneys, judges, police departments, jails, clerks, prosecutor, other county courts, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Corrections.

5.Process electronically filed documents and enter corresponding minute entries.

6.Labels exhibits as admitted or not admitted and prepares transcripts when requested.

7.Preservation of all notes, transcripts and exhibits as required by law.

8.Maintains the Court calendar to include: setting hearings, rescheduling hearings, and other appointments required by the Court.

9.Enters felony sentence and revocation information, no contact orders (NCO) and protective orders (PO) into INCITE.

10.Prepares and processes documents and items using Odyssey Case Management System in accordance with routinely evolving practices to include: warrants, body attachments, no contact orders and felony convictions into the Indiana Court Information Technology Extranet software system and the local law enforcement offices.

11.Tracks arrest sheets received from the Adams County Detention Center (ACDC) and maintains an arrest sheet for the purpose of the Court finding probable cause within 48 hours of the defendant’s arrest.

12.Facilitates maximum use of Webex Remote hearings among litigants, attorneys, witnesses, victims, Superior Court Judge, and potential Special Judges.

13.Communicates with the Adams County Detention Center (ACDC) book-ins to coordinate available video rooms for incarcerated inmates.

14.Assists attorneys, litigants, and the general public with inquiries to include: verifying hearings; and verifying contents of Court orders.

15.Processes, prepares, and distributes both the incoming and outgoing mail for the Superior Court.

16.Answers the telephone and responds to inquiries from callers, directs calls to the appropriate person or department, and takes messages, as needed.

17.Greets the public and assists individuals by directing them to the appropriate person or department.

18.Maintains an effective communication process with the Court Administrator and the Superior Court Judge.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one-year related experience and/or training. Previous administrative experience working in a government-related environment is desired.

•Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,Odyssey Case Management System, CSI Judicial Tracking Software, MyCase,DocRecord, Incite, Informer, Digital Court Recording (DCR), BIS, and Webex.

•The ability to type and enter data into the appropriate software system as cited is required.

•A working knowledge of the Indiana Criminal Code and Indiana Criminal Procedure is required.

•The ability to discern the difference between what a participant says and what is actually occurring is required.

•A working knowledge of procedures, methods, and policies of the Court program area is required.

•A working knowledge of the legal process, legal terminology, and the Indiana Rules of Court is required.

•The ability to maintain confidentiality of Court proceedings is required.

•The ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with the public is required.

•The ability to work with other County offices internally and externally to resolve citizen issues is required.

•The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is desired.

•The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and the risk of electrical shock when working with office equipment and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While the offices of Adams County are usually open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends.

Pay: $21.22 per hour
