The Clerk's Office of the United States District Court for the District of Oregon is now accepting applications for the position of Courtroom Deputy Clerk in the Portland Division. As a member of the case management team, the Courtroom Deputy Clerk functions in an administrative capacity managing cases for judges and providing courtroom services.Representative Duties: Responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to the following: Attends court sessions and conferences. Records court proceedings using electronic recording equipment (FTR Gold). Manages and organizes exhibits used in court proceedings, including setting up and troubleshooting electronic evidence presentation systems. Assists with the orderly flow of proceedings including, but not limited to, setting up the courtroom, assuring presence of all necessary participants, and managing exhibits. Takes notes of proceedings, rulings, notices, and prepares minute entries electronically.Conducts training sessions for litigants and counsel in the use of courtroom technology and initiates and tests the court’s digital evidence presentation system (DEPS).Performs Central Violations Bureau (CVB) clerk duties: prepares, codes, and distributes the CVB calendar. Supports CVB hearings and trials, responds to correspondence, e-mails, and telephone calls from violators.Incumbent may have to travel to Pendleton and Bend to administer functions associated with CVB and general magistrate duties for the judge.Performs data quality control on docket entries of all documents and proceedings on the docket, performs docket functions in CM/ECF, and assists in case management by ensuring that all automated entries are appropriately linked for proper case management.Reviews cases and reports for necessary action. Assists in the accurate, statistical reporting requirements of the Administrative Office of the United States Court. Dockets orders, pleadings, judgments, and minutes of proceedings as directed by local policy, utilizing applicable automated systems.Manages cases for judges by calendaring and regulating case movement; monitors the filing of documents and responses to judicial orders; and sets hearings, trials, and conferences.Coordinates hearings, schedules court reporters and interpreters, processes transcripts, arranges for transcriptions, and answers questions from parties and the public regarding obtaining transcripts. Acts as a liaison with the Clerk’s Office, the bar, the public, judges, and other governmental agencies to ensure that cases proceed smoothly and efficiently.May be called upon to perform backup duties for other members of the Clerk's Office (e.g. cashier, financial reconciliation, or intake duties).QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of specialized experience.Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry, or report generation. Such experience is commonly encountered in law firms, legal counsel offices, banking and credit firms, educational institutions, social service organizations, insurance companies, real estate and title offices, and corporate headquarters or human resources/payroll operations.Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
