Book Illustrator Responsibilities & Duties

• Creating illustrations that complement and enhance the text
• Collaborating with authors, editors, and publishers to understand the project requirements
• Revising and refining illustrations based on feedback
• Using digital or traditional media to create illustrations
• Conducting research to accurately depict the subject matter
• Ensuring consistent style and quality throughout a project
• Meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Preparing and formatting illustrations for print or digital publication
• Keeping up-to-date with current illustration trends and techniques

Book Illustrator Qualifications & Skills

• A strong portfolio showcasing a variety of illustration styles
• Experience with digital illustration software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop
• Previous experience illustrating books, particularly in the specific genre
• Familiarity with the publishing industry
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Basic understanding of typography and layout principles
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
• 1–2 years of proven experience as a Graphic Designer (agency experience preferred).
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premium Pro, After Effect) and other graphic design software.
• Knowledge of HTML/CSS and responsive web design.
• Strong portfolio showcasing a range of digital and print design work.
• Solid understanding of layout, color theory, typography, and design principles.
