Aroostook Savings & Loan Association – CREDIT ANALYST / JUNIOR COMMERCIAL LENDER
Position Overview: The Credit Analyst / Junior Commercial Lender serves as a vital member of the lending team, providing comprehensive analytical support to the Chief Lending Officer while developing commercial lending skills through direct client interaction and loan origination activities. This dual-function role combines rigorous credit analysis with relationship management responsibilities, offering a structured pathway to advancement in commercial lending.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Analysis Functions
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of commercial loan requests, including detailed review of financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, and business plans using bank software systems
- Prepare credit memoranda and loan presentations for senior management and loan committee review, ensuring compliance with lending policies and regulatory requirements
- Analyze industry trends, competitive market conditions, and borrower business models to assess credit risk and repayment capacity
- Evaluate collateral adequacy, including real estate appraisals, equipment valuations, accounts receivable aging, and inventory assessments
- Monitor existing loan portfolio performance, tracking covenant compliance, financial performance, and identifying potential credit deterioration
- Assist with annual reviews and loan renewals, including updated financial analysis and risk rating assessments
- Support special asset management activities as needed, including workout analysis and loss mitigation strategies
Junior Commercial Lending Functions
- Develop and maintain relationships with commercial clients, particularly small to mid-sized businesses within assigned portfolio or market segment, including cross selling a variety of bank services
- Generate new business through prospecting activities, referrals, and participation in community and business development events
- Structure commercial loan products including term loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, and commercial real estate loans under supervision
- Conduct client meetings and site visits to understand business operations, management capabilities, and financing needs
- Coordinate loan closing process, working with operations, legal counsel, and third-party service providers to ensure timely and accurate documentation
Administrative and Support Functions
- Provide direct administrative and analytical support to the Chief Lending Officer on strategic initiatives and special projects
- Prepare management reports, portfolio analytics, and regulatory reports as required
- Maintain proficiency in loan origination systems, core banking platforms, and credit analysis software
- Participate in training programs and professional development activities to enhance credit and lending skills
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field
- 1-3 years of experience in credit analysis, commercial lending, or related financial services role preferred
- Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with financial spreading software preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to prepare clear and concise credit memoranda
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for client meetings and site visits
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in commercial banking or corporate credit analysis
- Knowledge of commercial lending regulations including Regulation O, Regulation U, Regulation Z and relevant BSA/AML requirements
- Experience with loan origination systems and core banking platforms
- Demonstrated business development or sales experience
- Familiarity with real estate analysis, including appraisal review and property valuations

- Ability to lift and carry files and documents up to 25 pounds occasionally
