About the role
We are establishing a dedicated credit and collections function to manage our growing ledger of outstanding receivables, currently running at approximately £30,000 in weekly arrears across a book of 1,000 invoices. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on building operations from the ground up, turning a reactive problem into a structured, commercially focused recovery process.
What you will be responsible for
- Owning the end-to-end collections cycle, from first overdue notice through to legal escalation and enforcement
- Designing and implementing a tiered dunning process with clear escalation triggers and timelines
- Managing a portfolio of overdue accounts, prioritising by value, age, and recovery likelihood
- Issuing letters before action and managing small claims and county court proceedings via Money Claim Online
- Working closely with the parent company's finance and operations teams to ensure accurate and timely invoice data
- Building relationships with external solicitors, enforcement agents, and credit reference agencies where required
- Selecting and managing collections software and reporting tools to track recovery rates and cash flow impact
- Reporting weekly on collections performance, aged debt analysis, and forecast recovery against targets
- Identifying root causes of payment failures and recommending upstream improvements to credit terms and onboarding
What we are looking for
- Proven experience in a credit control, debt recovery, or collections role, ideally at a senior or management level
- Strong knowledge of UK debt recovery processes including pre-legal collections, county court procedures, and enforcement options
- Confident communicator capable of firm but professional engagement with debtors across a range of circumstances
- Analytically minded, comfortable working with data to drive decisions and report on KPIs
- Experience with collections or accounting software such as Chaser, Satago, Xero, or similar
- Able to work independently and build a function with limited existing structure or process
Desirable but not essential
- Familiarity with FCA consumer credit regulation and CONC guidelines
- Experience working within or alongside a regulated legal entity
- Background in B2B collections across high-volume, lower-value invoice books
Application Question(s):
- Which accounting or collections software have you used?
- Have you personally submitted claims through Money Claim Online?
