SUMMARY:
Roebuck Landscaping is seeking a Landscape Maintenance Crew Leader to lead Commercial Landscape Maintenance operations within our Roebuck/Spartanburg Branch. This position is the driving force behind daily production, crew performance, and on-site client satisfaction across our largest commercial accounts.
The Crew Leader owns the execution of routine landscape maintenance on large commercial sites, training and developing crew members, retaining top talent, and protecting the Roebuck Landscaping (RL) Standard on every property, every visit. This role demands ownership, urgency, accountability, and a relentless focus on labor efficiency, quality, and safety, while living our Core Values of Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Determination, and Passion.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Field Leadership & Landscape Maintenance Execution
- Lead the daily execution of routine landscape maintenance on large commercial properties including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, bed care, mulching, and debris removal.
- Drive the crew to hit route timing, production targets, and quality standards on every site, every day.
- Ensure turf, shrubs, and landscape beds are maintained to contract specifications and the Roebuck Landscaping Standard, with no exceptions.
- Walk properties before and after service to verify quality, identify deficiencies, and correct issues before leaving the site.
- Communicate site conditions, scope changes, and enhancement opportunities to the Account Manager and Branch Operations.
Labor Efficiency & Production Ownership:
- Own crew labor hours, route times, and production output. Labor efficiency is the driving force of this role.
- Plan the day before the day. Stage trucks, fuel, materials, and equipment to eliminate downtime and windshield time.
- Sequence work on large commercial sites to maximize man-hour productivity and minimize rework.
- Track budgeted vs. actual hours per site. Flag variances early and adjust crew execution to stay on plan.
- Hold the crew accountable to a steady production pace without sacrificing quality or safety.
Training & Retention:
- Train every Crew Member on proper technique, equipment operation, safety, and the RL Standard from day one.
- Onboard new hires in the field. Set clear expectations on quality, pace, conduct, and accountability.
- Develop crew members toward higher responsibility — equipment lead, secondary leader, and future Crew Leader candidates.
- Drive retention through strong leadership, fair treatment, clear communication, and daily recognition of effort and results.
- Address performance, attendance, and behavior issues immediately and partner with the Account Manager / Branch leadership on corrective action.
Quality Control & Protecting the RL Standard:
- The RL Standard is non-negotiable: straight lines, clean edges, sharp beds, full debris cleanup, and a professional jobsite presence.
- Inspect every property before pulling off — the Crew Leader is the last line of quality before the client sees the work.
- Coach in real time. If it’s not right, fix it on the spot and teach the crew why it matters.
- Always Represent Roebuck Landscaping professionally on client properties: uniform, conduct, communication, and equipment presentation.
Equipment Operation & Care:
- Operate and oversee safe use of mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, aerators, trucks, and trailers.
- Lead daily pre-use inspections and confirm the crew is following them. Report mechanical issues immediately.
- Ensure trucks, trailers, and equipment are clean, organized, and properly secured at the end of every day.
- Protect company assets: equipment loss, damage, or misuse is owned by the Crew Leader.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all company safety policies and field procedures.
- Maintain awareness of jobsite hazards including traffic, terrain, and equipment movement.
- Participate in required safety meetings and field training.
FIRST YEAR EXPECTATIONS & ONGOING EXCELLENCE
- Hit route timing and labor budget on assigned commercial maintenance accounts week over week.
- Deliver consistent RL Standard quality on every property, every visit — verified by Account Manager site audits.
- Build and retain a stable, high-performing crew. Turnover on the crew is owned by the Crew Leader.
- Develop at least one crew member toward the next level of responsibility within the first 12 months.
- Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability — and enforce the same with the crew.
- Operate with zero preventable safety incidents and zero preventable equipment damage.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with the Account Manager and Branch Operations on production, quality, and people issues.
