About You

You are a practicing attorney, barred and licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with at least 2 years of experience, preferably in criminal/DWI/traffic defense. You are looking to join a law firm where the bulk of your case load will be criminal, DWI, and traffic cases, but you are ready to work on and learn both landlord-tenant and personal injury from an award-winning supervisor. You are looking for a law firm where you can grow in your mastery of the law, your role in the firm, and the income you earn.

Most importantly, you are comfortable in a courtroom setting. You have a track record of appearing in court, with clients, arguing motions and trying cases. You are ready to step into a courtroom right now and have the chops to provide excellent representation to your clients.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in criminal and traffic cases, including infractions, misdemeanors and felonies, from initial consultation through trial and appeal if necessary
  • Thoroughly prepare each case through reviewing discovery materials and performing legal research utilizing tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis to build compelling defense strategies
  • Draft legal documents, motions, pleadings, and briefs with precision and clarity to support case arguments
  • Negotiate plea agreements and settlement terms with prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
  • Investigate case facts by interviewing witnesses, reviewing evidence, and collaborating with investigators
  • Stay current on developments in criminal law, including statutes, regulations, and case law relevant to defense strategies
  • Maintain meticulous case files, documentation, and compliance with legal administrative procedures
  • Assist with and handle tasks for civil cases including landlord-tenant cases and personal injury cases

Experience

  • Proven experience practicing criminal law with a strong track record of successful case outcomes
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms like Westlaw and LexisNexis for comprehensive case analysis
  • Excellent writing skills for drafting clear legal documents and persuasive arguments
  • Strong negotiation skills to advocate effectively on behalf of clients during plea bargaining or settlement discussions
  • Legal drafting experience combined with administrative skills to manage case workflows efficiently
  • Ability to interpret complex legal issues accurately while maintaining attention to detail in all aspects of case management

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
