Criminal Defense Lawyer - Associate Attorney or Rule 9 Intern

Law firm with offices in Shelton and Aberdeen seeks an associate attorney or rule 9 intern interested in handling misdemeanor cases in Grays Harbor County District Court and Shelton Municipal Court. This is an entry level, full-time, position. However, more experienced attorneys are encouraged to apply as the firm as we also handle felonies. Pay will be commensurate with experience. Training will be provided.

The firm’s primary focus is public defense services for the State and municipalities. Applicants with other legal skill sets are also encouraged to apply. Occasional coverage in other courts will be required. Court appearances will be primarily in person, although occasional zoom appearances are permitted. Pretrial appearances will be on Wednesdays and every other Thursday, with an additional preliminary appearance calendar in Shelton on Monday. An office will be provided in Aberdeen or Shelton depending on your preference, but most attorneys work from home.

Applicants should be licensed attorneys in Washington State or Rule 9 qualified interns. If you do not live in Washington State, please do not apply. Prior experience with criminal litigation is helpful, but not required. The successful applicant will be dedicated to protecting their clients’ constitutional rights, able to negotiate successfully with prosecutors and be comfortable working with a diverse and indigent population. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required.

The firm offers paid training, a flexible work schedule, work from home options and a laid back, collegial work environment. A 12- month commitment is desired. Salary is DOE with an expected range of $4000 (interns) to $7000 (licensed attorneys with 1+ year of experience). This is a base pay. Commissions are paid on top of base at 50%.
