POSITION: Crisis Counselor

FUNCTION: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Crisis Counselor is responsible for establishing a crisis counseling program at the Center and providing crisis counseling for clients and staff. A key function of this position is to provide immediate stabilization and coping skills, referral information, and follow-up to ensure referrals work well for families. The Crisis Counselor is responsible for ensuring a safe, child and family friendly environment, and ensuring that families receive services in a timely and appropriate manner. The Crisis Counselor ensures they receive necessary supervision and maintains appropriate documentation for licensing of a crisis counseling program for caregivers, child victims, and witnesses.

CRISIS COUNSELING

  • Provide crisis counseling and stabilization for victims and non-offending family members
  • Develop a plan of action for the client based on their specific needs, with input from the multi-disciplinary team
  • Conduct follow-up to provide continued development of coping skills until the client is ready to transition to long-term care
  • Provide referrals to long-term counseling as needed, striving to develop relationships with quality providers to ensure a streamlined transition for clients
  • Serve as liaison between client and other mental health providers
  • Enter client data and ensure appropriate documentation for all cases is maintained in our secure online client record system

PROGRAM SUSTAINABILITY

  • Submit verification of clinical supervision as required by the State Bureau of Behavioral Health
  • Obtain a National Provider Identifier for yourself and for the Center
  • Create a profile with CAQH Proview
  • Prepare credentialing applications with each insurance company
  • Develop lists of commonly used CPT codes to be used for billing
  • Participate in monthly MDT meetings that monitor and evaluate case outcomes for adherence to standards and continuous quality improvement
  • Identify any gaps in services and work actively to address those gaps
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience in crisis counseling or other related therapy
  • Must have or be working toward licensure
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid government issued ID
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check

SPECIAL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of interpersonal abuse and trauma response
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to organize a variety of tasks and effectively deal with a variety of people
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, and teamwork

Any offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of new hire screenings, including background checks and professional reference checks.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour

Experience:
