The Putnam/Northern Westchester Women's Resource Center has been providing services to women and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for over 47+ years. The mission of the WRC is to provide advocacy, education, and services to the community in order to create a safe, supportive environment that eliminates violence against women, men and children and promotes gender equality.
Position Available: Crisis Counselor/DVHRT Coordinator is a 35+hour, non-exempt, position for a licensed and experienced candidate.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, some flexible hours and on call , in-person
Description:
The Crisis Counselor/DVHRT Coordinator provides compassionate, comprehensive, trauma-informed, and client-centered services to adults and children who have experienced domestic and sexual violence. This role delivers crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and individual and group therapeutic services while ensuring survivor safety and empowerment.
In the role of Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT) Coordinator, the individual oversees and facilitates a multidisciplinary, survivor-centered response to high-risk domestic violence cases. The Coordinator leads collaboration among law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocacy organizations, courts, social service agencies, and behavioral-health partners to reduce lethality risk and enhance coordinated community responses.
Key Responsibilities:
Crisis Counselor Responsibilities
- Provide individual counseling and therapeutic services to adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
- Facilitate therapeutic and support groups for survivors.
- Conduct intake assessments and evaluations for individuals seeking counseling services.
- Participate in crisis intervention, including responding to hotline calls and supporting emergency response efforts as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Attend and participate in meetings, case conferences, trainings, and community presentations as requested.
- Maintain accurate and timely case records, data entry, and required reports in accordance with agency and funder requirements.
- Advocate for social justice and gender equality with a demonstrated commitment to ending violence against women and children.
- Serve as a liaison within the agency and with community partners and service providers.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining a strong work ethic and professional judgment.
- Exhibit strong written communication and computer skills.
- Maintain flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to work varied hours as needed.
DVHRT Coordinator Responsibilities
- Manage high-risk domestic violence case referrals and coordinate DVHRT meetings.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among multidisciplinary team members.
- Ensure timely and appropriate information sharing in compliance with confidentiality and privacy laws.
- Track case outcomes, trends, and program data to support evaluation and reporting.
- Support the implementation of evidence-based lethality assessment and safety-planning practices.
- Promote accountability and shared responsibility across participating systems.
- Apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices to strengthen survivor safety and engagement.
- Support continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance coordinated community response effectiveness.
Education and skills:
- Master’s Degree in: Mental Health Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy, MSW, LMSW or related field.
