Position Summary
The Specialist – Critical Care Medicine is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The role requires strong clinical expertise in managing complex, life-threatening conditions, working within a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring patient safety in a tertiary-care governmental hospital setting.

licensing requirements in Qatar.
Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients in ICU, including assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex conditions

Initiate and manage life-support measures (e.g., mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support)

Perform essential ICU procedures such as intubation, central/arterial line insertion, and emergency interventions

Participate in daily ICU rounds, multidisciplinary discussions, and clinical handovers
-
Respond to emergencies and support resuscitation (Code Blue) when required
-
Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, clinical protocols, and patient safety standards

Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the Hospital Information System (HIS)

Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals

Communicate clearly with patients’ families regarding clinical status and care plans
-
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, audits, and departmental performance measures

Support teaching, supervision of junior staff, and ongoing professional development
Qualifications & Licensing Requirements (DHP – Qatar)

Basic Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
from a recognized institution.

Board Certification / Residency in one of the following:
Internal
Medicine
-
Anesthesiology
-
Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine / Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
from a recognized institution.
-
Minimum 3 years of post-fellowship experience in ICU
, in:
Governmental hospitals, Semi-governmental hospitals, or Teaching / university-affiliated hospitals

Must meet
DHP eligibility criteria for Specialist license in Critical Care
.

Valid medical license from home country and/or country of practice.

DataFlow verification and Prometric (if applicable) as per DHP requirements.

48 hours per week as per hospital policy

Important Note (Operational Reality at MMCH)
Candidates must hold a
base specialty (Internal Medicine or Anesthesiology) with ICU fellowship and ≥3 years post-fellowship experience
to be eligible for ICU scope under DHP. Candidates not meeting these criteria may be licensed under their base specialty only.
