Under the supervision of the SCT Director, the Critical Care Nurse will respond to all patient transport assignments in an efficient and professional manner.
The Critical Care Transport RN serves as the clinical partner to the Specialty Care Paramedic, Paramedic and/or EMT, providing safe and therapeutic care during inter-hospital transport of a wide range of patients. The RN conducts assessments and implements care for patients in accordance with established standards of care and company SCT protcols.
Pulse operates a high-performance Retrieval Medicine Team with a focus on autonomy, ongoing education, collarborative training, and high-acuity patient transfers. Candidates must be comfortable with a wide variety of patient conditions, intensive care level medications and interventions, and be able to independently operate equipment such as Hamilton T1 ventilators, Eitan Sapphire infusion pumps, Datascope CS300 Hyrbrid intra-aortic balloon pumps, Medtronic transvenous pacemakers, Zoll CCT series monitors, etc.
Our transport team enjoys modern, evidence-based care protocols with skill sets including rapid sequence intubation, finger thoracotomy, blood product administration, and more. Instruction for BLS, ACLS, PALS and NALS is provided in-house; Pulse is both an AHA and ARC training site. Additional off-site opportunities include cadaver lab, airway rotations in the operating theater, and Attending ICU Physician shadowing.
The RN collaborates will provide a high standard of patient care in both emergent and non-emergent settings, and to all patient populations - maternal, newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric. As part of the transport team, the RN triages critical care transfer requests and determines the nature and extent of illness or injury, and establishes required resources and priority.
The team will maintain continuity of care and provide consistent monitoring of the patient during transport, administer additional care as indicated or directed by medical control, assist in lifting and carrying the patient, reports verbally and in writing their observation and all emergency medical care rendered to the receiving facility.
