CTE Welding, Brazing, & Soldering Instructor

SUMMARY: Coordinate and maintain an ISD Wide Educational Learning Program for the Welding, Brazing, & Soldering Program Course that meets the 48.0508 Michigan Office of Career & Technical Education Guidelines for a CTE Program.

DEFINITION: The Welding program uses the American Welding Society curriculum to instruct 11th and 12th grade students in a combination of academic and lab experiences, to help prepare students in the safe use of cutting equipment, material preparation, and welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW and OAW). This program seeks to provide students with industry certifications, knowledge and skills, that will allow them to enter the work force, or seek post-secondary opportunities to enhance their skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor Degree with Secondary Teacher Certification with Vocational Education Endorsement.

OR

4,000 hours of paid work experience in the appropriate CIP code field (48.0508 Welding, Brazing, & Soldering).

  • Instructors must be approved by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for specific CTE Program CIP 48.0508.
  • Proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and oxyacetylene cutting is essential.
  • Knowledge of CNC plasma tables and pulse welding technology.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills that are positive and high school level appropriate.
  • Previous teaching experience, especially in a Career & Technical Education (CTE) or similar setting, is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience in and/or ability to develop partnerships with local businesses and colleges.
  • Knowledge in the latest developments and trends in the field of the above content are for the purpose of implementing researched-based instructional practices into daily instruction.
  • A passion for working with students, strong communication skills, ability to convey complex technical concepts in an understandable manner, and a proactive and problem-solving mindset, with willingness to continuously learn and grow in this career field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an instructional plan for the Welding, Brazing, & Soldering Program, which provides detailed in classroom, lab, and online learning opportunities for students. This plan should follow the approved curriculum for this course as determined by the district and the State of Michigan.
  • Teach safety standards and inspect student work to industry code.
  • Deliver both classroom instruction and hands-on lab experiences to help students build practical skills.
  • Develop and implement course materials, assignments, and assessments aligned with state standards and industry requirements. Prepare students for relevant certifications, such as American Welding Society (AWS) SENSE.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Cultivate a positive, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Maintain a current advisory committee involved in business and industry.
  • Provide a leadership role in the development of professional and post-secondary partnerships. This will enable the teacher to stay informed about industry trends and advancements in Welding, Brazing, and Soldering to provide up-to-date learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors to enhance curriculum and student opportunities through cross-curriculum experiences and shared career experiences.
  • Monitor assigned district-owned equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse.
