The CTVS Staff Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care. Ensures patient safety, infection control, and timely documentation as per hospital standards.
Roles & ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Provide pre-op & post-op nursing care to CTVS patients in ICU and ward.
- Monitor vitals, hemodynamics, chest drains, ABG analysis, and ventilator parameters.
- Manage central lines, arterial lines, pacing wires, IABP care (if applicable).
- Assist in early mobilization, physiotherapy coordination, and wound care.
- Administer medications including inotropes, anticoagulants & analgesics as per protocols.
- Ensure strict aseptic and infection control practices.
Intra-operative Assistance (if posted in OT)
- Assist surgeons during cardiothoracic surgeries including CABG, valve replacements etc.
- Manage instruments, surgical supplies, and sponge/needle counts.
- Familiar with CPB (Heart-Lung Machine) team coordination.
Patient Safety & Communication
- Recognize and respond to early signs of complications like arrhythmias, bleeding, hypotension, cardiac tamponade, etc.
- Provide patient & family education related to surgery, medications, and follow-up care.
- Maintain compassion, privacy, and dignity of patients at all times.
Qualification & Experience
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing with valid registration
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in ICU / CTVS OT preferred.
Work Conditions
- Rotational duties including night shifts, Sundays & holidays as per schedule
- Emergency on-call duties may be required
