As an 18 North Ventures Inc., Cultivation Team Member (Field & Crop Care) you will be a crucial component of the seed to flower process that will be highly impacted and dependent on the proper fertilization, irrigation and crop care executed by this role.
18 North’s Cultivation Team Member is responsible for the day to day implementation of all agricultural practices needed for the healthy development of the crop life cycle to harvest; supports daily agricultural practices to ensure the standard of nutrition that are individual and unique according to the soil, the strain, the growing phase of the plant and many other factors; take readings of parameters like salinity, pH, soil moisture, soil temperature and any other key metrics; ensure the irrigation system operates in optimum conditions; support soil preparation; assist the Cultivation Manager in special projects; ensure that standards are met in accordance with parameters accordance with 18 North SOP’s.
The Cultivation Team Member must read, know, and comply with all aspects of the general provisions of Puerto Rico local and federal cannabis regulations for the management of the study, development, and research of cannabis for innovation, norms and limits, and production. 18 North’s team members will be held to high levels of integrity set forth by our Standards of Conduct, mission, and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Executes daily field and crop care activities assigned by priority level.
- Assists in the soil and nutrient management: soil testing, analysis and amendments.
- Assist in the implementation of the crop nutrient plan.
- Completes irrigation tasks according to the irrigation schedule.
- Supports the maintenance and upkeep of department equipment.
- Enters daily crop data and key observations to the enterprise resource planning system.
- Operates farming equipment as needed.
- Monitors and maintains department inventory of fertilizers, irrigation components and special equipment, replacements, and others.
- Conducts repairs and maintenance of the irrigation, plumbing and pump system.
- Demonstrates a high level of confidentiality.
- Actively communicates with Team Leader and other team members.
- Models positive interpersonal and team working skills.
- Executes responsibilities in adherence to federal and local Puerto Rico cannabis rules and regulations, as well as policies and procedures set forth by 18 North management team.
- Collaborates and participates in special team projects as needed.
Skills & Experience:
Requirements
- (Preferred) Possess a valid Occupational Cannabis License with Puerto Rico Department of Health https://licenciacannabis.salud.gov.pr/
- Able to obtain an Occupational Cannabis License with Puerto Rico Department of Health https://licenciacannabis.salud.gov.pr/
- Minimum 21 years of age per Puerto Rico regulations
- Basic proficiency with computers, smartphones or tablets
- Able to work under constant exposure to outdoor tropical weather conditions: sun, high humidity, heat index, occasional wind gusts, pollen, and dust
- Positive attitude that supports a team environment, collaboration, and respect
Preferred Qualifications
- Agriculture/Vegetables experience.
- Associate degree in Agronomy (Crop Science, Plant Science, or Horticulture)
- -OR- 1 to 2 years of hands-on agriculture experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Good active listening
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Environment and Physical Demands
- This role is part of a high urgency environment of continuous improvement and sustained operational growth is to be expected. Flexibility to adjust to operational demands is expected and will be key for its success.
- This role has occasional indoor work but is mostly an outdoor position: cultivation area, greenhouse, field, warehouse and general vicinity of the operation.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions in tropical climates is to be expected: sun, high humidity, heat index, occasional wind gust, pollen, and dust
- While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; frequently required to walk the outdoors and indoors areas of the facility; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision
