The Custodial Coordinator is responsible for comprehensive janitorial and housekeeping services to ensure campus buildings, grounds, and common areas remain clean, safe, and welcoming. This position plays a vital role in supporting the ongoing operations of our organization and to provide our students, guests, donors, volunteers, and staff with an exceptional experience whenever they are on campus.
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform regular/routine cleaning of multiple campus buildings, bathrooms, and common spaces, student dorms
Empty and replace garbage liners in offices, common spaces, bathrooms
Vacuum, mop, and wax floors
Dust and clean counters, walls, doors, furniture, tabletops, pictures, and ceiling fans, vents and outdoor alcoves
Clean and vacuum chairs, couches, and cushions in all buildings
Clean large glass doors and windows using appropriate materials
Wipe stainless steel refrigerators, door kicks, corner guards, and dog baths
Launder fitness towels, dog towels, dorm room bedding, dorm towels, dog beds
Monitor and communicate cleaning supply needs to supervisor
Set up for special events and meetings
Complete special cleaning projects as assigned
Move equipment, furniture, and supplies as needed
Assist with grounds cleanup as requested
Identify, report, and/or correct safety hazards
Assist guests, volunteers, and staff as needed
Basic inventory management
Ability to follow and complete checklists
High level organizational skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and sometimes a diplomatic touch
Exceptional time-management skills with strong decision-making and prioritization skills
Demonstrates patience and cooperation with coworkers
Education and/or Experience
1–2 years of custodial experience preferred
Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
Valid driver’s license with good driving record and reliable vehicle
High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Responsibility for Property
This job does have the responsibility for property (supply inventory, equipment, tools, materials, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine checklists, reports, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with, students, donors, guests, volunteers, and coworkers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform calculations on standard measures of American currency and weight, volume and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
The following computer skills are required:
Functional skills with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
Ability to use the internet for research
This position will have occasional interactions with the following outside contacts:
Contractors, vendors, and suppliers
Family members and individuals supporting on campus students
