CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Custodial Worker

DEPARTMENT: Detention Services
REPORTS TO: Facility Support Supervisor
PAY GRADE: A2
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week
DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
Performs general custodial duties to maintain the general cleanliness of detention facility and fixtures. May need to assist in kitchen area during times of shortages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs a variety of custodial duties. Vacuums and scrubs rugs, dusts, mops and washes floors, strips, waxes and buffs floors, and dusts furniture, vents and equipment. Washes windows, venetian blinds, woodwork, and walls.
Cleans sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors and other bathroom fixtures. Cleans water fountains.
Empties wastebaskets and takes out trash bags from kitchen and other areas.
Cleans up spills and minor vandalism caused by youth. Unstops toilets, removes toilet paper, urine, and feces from corners, walls, ceilings and other locations. Disinfects areas. Cleans areas that are flooded by clogged toilets.
Replaces bathroom supplies, changes light bulbs, and performs other light maintenance tasks.
Monitors inventory of custodial supplies and submits request to supervisor as needed.
Responsible for receiving a minimum of 16 hours of training hours annually.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Notes building problems requiring skilled repair and refers to supervisor to initiate repair process.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Scrubber, vacuum, buffer, wet vac, mop, mop bucket and wringer, broom, dust cloth, dollies, and other standard custodial equipment, bug sprayer, telephone, computer.

Youth; all staff within facility [casual contact].

WORKING CONDITIONS
Good working conditions but with occasional exposure to heat, cold, dampness, noise, dirt, dust and other conditions. The employee must use standard safety precautions to avoid injury from lifting, cleaning up bodily fluids, and handling cleaning chemicals or other job situations.

The job duties require an employee to be absent of any limitations, which would impair effective performance. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently stands and walks for extended periods of time, traverses up and down stairs, uses hands to hold and control equipment; reaches with hands and arms, climbs and balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls. Duties frequently require lifting items up to 25 pounds. Normal vision demands.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: custodial methods, materials, equipment and supplies; safety precautions; methods and precautions for handling possibly infectious bodily fluids and other materials.
Ability to: understand and follow instructions; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and general public; perform light manual labor for extended periods of time.
Skill in: first aide, CPR; operating general custodial equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED and ability to perform light manual labor for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift heavy objects occasionally which could be over 25 pounds. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirements.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
CPR; First Aide [required to earn following appointment].
