Custodian

Status: Part-Time (approximately 15 +/- hours per week)

Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Compensation: $14.00– $19.00/hour (dependent upon experience)

Summary: The Church Custodian at Zachary United Methodist Church is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the church facilities. This involves multiple buildings (Church Office, Sanctuary, Youth Building, and Fellowship Hall. The Custodian is responsible for establishing and maintaining a schedule for keeping each building clean for use before and after events, services, and meetings.

Some specific tasks are:

General Cleaning:

· Service, clean, and supply restrooms. Ensuring that floors, toilets, sinks and other fixtures are clean and operating properly.

· Gather and empty trash from cans throughout the property deposit in the dumpster.

· Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using appropriate cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.

· Clean the entrance door and partition glass and remove smudges on the doors

· Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

· Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or with hand trucks.

· Spot clean doors, frames, and light switches

· Clean and sanitize drinking fountains

· Vacuum and/or wipe fabric/leather/or plastic furniture

· Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.

· Dust high and low in corners and under furniture for cobwebs

· Dust all blinds, ceiling vents, light fixtures, picture frames, ledges, and windowsills

Floor Maintenance:

· Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming.

· Vacuum all mats/welcome mats

· Vacuum all carpeted areas

· Detail vacuuming in high traffic areas and under pews (in Sanctuary)

· Spot mop all significant spills (deep cleaning may be required)

· Detail mop all hard surfaces

Kitchen/Break Areas/Restrooms

· Wipe and sanitize all countertops and hard surfaces

· Clean and disinfect the exterior of all appliances

· Clean and polish restroom dispensers

· Clean and disinfect all surfaces – sinks, toilets, and urinals

· Clean walls, when needed, for streaks and stains

· Wash floors with germicide cleaner

· Clean and polish all mirrors and metal surfaces

· Restock all paper products and soap products

Other:

· Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.

· Notify the pastor or church secretary concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

· Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

· Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.

· Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

The Church will provide all necessary cleaning items and chemicals, including all consumables.

**floor waxing and stripping experience is a plus**

This is a part-time hourly position. Hours and frequency of cleaning will be established/agreed with the Pastor. All Zachary UMC employees must complete a Drug Screen and background check, and must read and follow all Church Policies and Procedures.

Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
