The City of Springfield is accepting applications for the classified position of Custodian!
The city is seeking a dependable and motivated Custodian to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming public facilities. This position performs a variety of custodial duties, including cleaning public buildings, surrounding grounds, garages, and other assigned areas. Work may be performed independently or as part of a team.
Examples of Duties
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs floors, hallways, and stairways; vacuums, dusts, cleans, and maintains furniture, carpets, equipment, fixtures, window sills, railings, and blinds.
- Collects and removes wastepaper and trash from offices, rooms, halls, and restrooms; washes walls, windows, mirrors, light fixtures, and drinking fountains; disinfects toilets, washbowls, and urinals.
- Replenishes towels, tissues, soaps, and other restroom supplies; unstops sinks, toilets, and drains; replaces lightbulbs.
- Keeps outside premises in an orderly condition; sweeps or shovels snow from walkways; cuts grass, waters lawn, and removes trash on premises; trims bushes; sweeps parking areas; applies sand and salt; cuts and removes weedsusing hand and power equipment; may drive pickup or tractor with blade to remove snow from driveways and sidewalks; operates sidewalk vacuum machine.
- Moves and arranges furniture; maintains the security of the buildings at all times; secures doors and windows after the conclusion of business hours.
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and meet and maintain insurability under the City's insurance plan.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to learn the safety precautions, methods, materials, and equipment ordinarily used in cleaning buildings and grounds.
- Ability to perform the various custodial tasks associated with the care and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with the public or other employees in a pleasant, courteous manner as required by the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and building occupants.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform the work of the class.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.13 - $23.15 per hour
