Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor and Lead Housekeeper, this position will be a Custodian AM among the custodial staff that maintains 750,000 square feet of office space, classrooms, labs, conference room, residential housing, cafeterias, and athletic venues. Demonstrate a high level of autonomy with commitment and support to the Facility Department in providing an efficient and professional customer-oriented service in the development of the physical and spatial campus environment

Representative Duties:
Clean residential halls, classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, rest rooms, showers, stairways and miscellaneous university areas or surfaces using CLU's standard procedures and processes. E
Dust mop and vacuum all types of floor surface materials; remove marks, spills, tape, paint, gum or other various materials stuck to surfaces by using the proper chemicals for each floor and each waste materials; wet mop in public areas, white boards and rail, and hallways; clean and exchange erasers; dispose of contaminated water in designated drains and flushing drains.
Knowledge of Green Seal cleaning products and some solvent-based chemicals used in cleaning procedures.
Cleans hard floors using dust and wet mops, brooms, and various floor machines. Strips, waxes and burnishes hard surface flooring. E
Examines carpet for stains and utilizes necessary processes and chemicals to remove spots. Cleans carpets using an extraction method. E
Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, sills, doors, etc. E
Dusts and moves furniture weighing 60 lbs. or less. E
Empty recycling or trash bins and carry each to their designated disposal area. E
Clean, sanitize and replenish supplies in restrooms. E
Examine/inspect areas to determine other cleaning duties needed. Inspect area for necessary repairs and generate word order requests to resolve issues. E
Respond to on call emergencies during shift work; inspect area for necessary repairs, make repairs if possible, and generate work order requests to resolve issues. Determine if the emergency warrants a vendor to respond, and if that is the case, place a call to the vendor and request service. E
Select chemicals and proper dilution ratios according to manufactures specifications for various applications; apply according to CLU's defined processes and procedures, tools, cleaning materials, equipment and chemicals; use appropriate PPE (gloves, safety glasses and masks) for all assigned tasks. Set or release necessary alarms, out of service settings for security and safety operations. E
Present an acceptable, uniformed appearance and relate positively to students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. E
Use custodial equipment such as carts, trucks, auto scrubber, buffer, high-speed rotary machines, extractors, sweeper, blower, pressure washer, ladder and miscellaneous standard cleaning equipment. E
Participates in all Trades mandated trainings, especially those involving safety. E
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor and as needed on main campus site. E

Knowledge Of:
Custodial cleaning methods for floor care, restroom, lounges, hallways, offices, cafeterias, athletic spaces and conference rooms.
Proper methods and products to clean various interior surfaces materials.
Methods and equipment used to maintain hard surface floors and carpets/mats.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Knowledge of how to use commercial cleaning products and Trades related safety skills.
Green Seal cleaning products and some solvent-based chemicals used in cleaning procedures.

Ability To:
Make adjustments to their work schedule for summer or special programs on campus. Availability to work various shifts; including Saturdays, Sundays and overtime.
Perform all necessary tasks related to maintaining a university's interior.
Work independently with little direction.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Follow regulations, policies and procedures.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions in English. Communicate in English

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: Six months of experience or training in housekeeping, cleaning, or custodial duties.

Preferred Qualifications:
12 months of custodial experience with light maintenance and repair experience.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California driver's license and safe driving record
Basic English skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and math skills related to the performance of this job.

Physical Abilities:
Sitting, standing and walking up to 8 hours per day; bending at the waist; crawling, kneeling, stooping, squatting or crouching while working; walking over rough or uneven surfaces; ability to hear and speak to exchange information/training material; adequate eyesight to perform tasks and drive vehicles; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized hand and power tools and equipment; reaching and working horizontally, above the shoulders and overhead, up to 25 lbs.

Working Environment:
Campus setting; exposure to wet conditions; mild fumes; airborne particles & dust; the noise level in the work environment is consistent with custodial equipment levels; training on processes, chemical use and safe practices will be provided.
