Custodian & Kitchen Specialist

As the Custodian and Kitchen Specialist, you will support the daily operations of the center by preparing meals and snacks, maintaining a clean and sanitary environment, and assisting with basic facility upkeep. You will serve as the primary person responsible for daily meal preparation while helping keep the center safe, organized, and welcoming for children, families, and staff through routine cleaning, supply management, and general upkeep.

This part-time position supports the daily operations of the center through meal preparation, cleaning, and basic facility upkeep.

Hourly Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 DOE

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals and snacks for all children using proper portion sizes and safe food handling practices.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen after meal service, including washing dishes, utensils, and food preparation equipment.
• Complete routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying trash and diaper pails.
• Model cleanliness, organization, and professionalism as a positive example for children and staff.
• Assist with minor facility repairs and basic maintenance tasks as needed.
• Keep kitchen and janitorial supplies stocked, organized, and ready for use.
• Maintain accurate cleaning logs, safety records, and required forms.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall operations and goals of the center.

Required Skills

• Ability to work well with others and foster a team environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Skill: Ability to prepare meals in large portions while following recipes and portion guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• Food Handler Certification (can be completed within 1 month of employment)

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout the shift while performing cleaning, kitchen, and facility duties.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or move up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to safely work in kitchen and facility environments using cleaning equipment, kitchen tools, and basic hand tools.
