The Customer Service Representative I is a part-time position scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week. Work hours may vary between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., including Saturdays.

The Community Services, Parks & Recreation Department enriches lives by providing a wide range of recreational opportunities, parks, and social services for residents of all ages. The Department offers programs focused on youth, families, seniors, and individuals, promoting positive alternatives, healthy lifestyles, and community connection. From fitness and social activities to prevention and counseling services, it supports the well-being of the community in a safe and welcoming environment. The Department also manages citywide special events and operates local cultural attractions like the Chino Youth Museum and Old Schoolhouse Museum, while the Parks and Facilities Division ensures the care and development of all city parks and facilities. Guided by its mission to impact lives and build a connected community, this department plays a vital role in enhancing Chino’s quality of life.

Duties/Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As our new Customer Service Representative I, you will:

  • Answer incoming phone calls; provide information and direct inquiries.
  • Type and proofread correspondence, reports, and forms using computer software.
  • Prepare, sort, file, and maintain accurate records and documents according to established systems.
  • Receive, route, and distribute mail and materials promptly and accurately.
  • Assist and collaborate with co-workers at all levels in a customer-focused environment to support the daily operations of the department.
  • Maintain regular attendance and perform duties aligned with the City’s mission and values.

What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has knowledge of principles and practices of effective reception and telephone techniques including proper telephone etiquette.
  • Understands practices used to establish and maintain files and information retrieval systems.
  • Has the ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Effectively uses computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Uses tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgement within general policy and procedural guidelines.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Experience: One (1) year of clerical experience.

Special Requirements

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Light Physical Effort: involved typical workplace tasks such as typing, writing, filing, and operating light office equipment, with no strenuous physical activities required.
  • Work Environment: Generally performed in standard office settings with no unusual physical or environmental demands; lifting is minimal, typically not exceeding 25 pounds.
