Location: Hybrid (onsite 2-3 days/week in Whittier, CA location)

Role Overview

PSB Insights is seeking a temp to hire Analyst, Senior Analyst, or Project Manager in Unstructured Data Analytics to join our innovative research team. This position blends analytics, AI-enabled methods, and unstructured data analysis to support both firmwide research initiatives and high-impact client engagements across industries. You will work extensively with large-scale unstructured datasets, applying techniques such as natural language processing, AI, and custom analytic workflows to uncover patterns, themes, and actionable insights.

The ideal candidate is analytically rigorous, intellectually curious, and comfortable operating in ambiguity. You have a strong grasp of logic and have some familiarity with R and/or Python for data analysis. You enjoy learning new things and have the ability to adapt and apply AI-driven approaches as tools and methods evolve. You will partner closely with project managers, senior leaders, and cross-functional research teams to design analyses, solve complex research challenges, and translate sophisticated data outputs into clear, compelling, and decision-ready stories for clients. You will also be working with team leadership to develop new and innovative unstructured data solutions that will help differentiate PSB and build our reputation as a leader in unstructured data intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, execution, and delivery of unstructured data research engagements, from data sourcing through insight generation.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets, including survey data and unstructured data, to uncover meaningful patterns, trends, and insights.
  • Develop clear, client-ready dashboards, charts, and summaries.
  • Support research teams in development of client ready final reports.
  • Collaborate with project managers, data specialists, and senior leadership across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Contribute to client-facing presentations and discussions, as appropriate.
  • Ensure analytical rigor, data accuracy, reproducibility, and high-quality standards across all deliverables.
  • Proactively manage timelines, priorities, and deliverables in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Develop and refine queries to identify, extract, and compile large-scale unstructured datasets from internet-based and other non-traditional data sources.
  • Work with existing analytical code (primarily in Python) to clean, process, structure, and analyze unstructured data.
  • Apply AI-enabled and NLP techniques to transform unstructured text data into analyzable formats and meaningful insights.
  • Manipulate, analyze, and visualize data using RStudio, supporting exploratory analysis and statistical modeling as needed.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of unstructured data methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Translate brand/category definitions into defensible logic, writing complex Boolean queries and systematically validating to minimize misclassification while maximizing coverage.
  • Support Data Processing as needed including cleaning, aggregating, and refining (weighting and outlier removal) survey data, often in collaboration with data processing vendors, to develop client-facing datasets and dashboards that address business questions

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of quantitative expertise, unstructured data experience, and strong communication skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, computational, or social science discipline (e.g., statistics, economics, psychology, sociology, data science, computer science); advanced degree a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in market research, analytics, social intelligence, data science, or related fields, with demonstrated experience working with unstructured or text-based data.
  • Experience working in R and/or Python for data manipulation, exploration, and analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled or NLP Techniques (e.g, text preprocessing, topic modeling, embeddings, text classification); direct production experience preferred, but strong conceptual understanding acceptable.
  • Experience sourcing, querying and analyzing social or digital data; familiarity with platforms such as Sprinklr, Quid, Brandwatch, Talkwalker, Meltwater, or similar platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using advanced Excel (e.g., macros, lookups, complex formulas); familiarity with SPSS, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Logical reasoning & structured problem-solving: Ability to think in a rigorous, step-by-step way and translate ambiguous research needs into precise, testable logic.

Other qualifications include:

  • Exceptional PowerPoint skills with the ability to tell clear, compelling, data-driven stories.
  • Comfort translating quantitative findings into strategic insights for clients.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and quality control.
  • Ability to work independently with confidence while collaborating effectively within a team.
