The Role
We are seeking a Data Automation Engineer to strengthen our data infrastructure and streamline how Finance and Central Operations manage and exchange data.
Your initial focus will be a one-off project to modernise our current Excel/VBA-based invoicing process — replacing manual workflows with an automated and scalable data pipeline. Once this is successfully delivered, your ongoing responsibility will be to develop and maintain our wider data automation, ETL processes, and system scalability to support both Finance and Operations teams.
This is a hands-on role at the intersection of data engineering and business operations, ideal for someone who enjoys improving real-world business processes through smart automation.
Key ResponsibilitiesPhase 1 – System Modernisation (Initial Project)
- Review the existing Excel/VBA process used for partner invoicing and transaction reporting.
- Design and implement a new automated solution to generate invoices and detailed transaction reports directly from structured data.
- Rebuild existing macro-based logic into clean, maintainable code (e.g. Python + SQL).
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure that custom calculations and manual adjustments can still be applied where needed.
- Deliver a robust, documented solution that improves speed, accuracy, and scalability.
Phase 2 – Ongoing Data Automation & Scalability
- Build, manage and document data pipeline (ETL/ELT) to consolidate data from Finance, Operations, and partner systems.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows for data processing and report generation.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and availability for dashboards and reporting.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve automation, reduce manual work, and enhance transparency.
- Support and train Finance and Operations teams to adopt the new tools and workflows.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
- 2-4 years of professional work experience in data engineering and automation.
- Proficient in Python (including pandas, openpyxl, and PDF/report generation libraries).
- Strong command of SQL and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery or similar).
- Experience with data automation and workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Google Sheets API, Airflow, Prefect, Power Automate).
- Understanding of ETL/ELT design and structured data modelling.
- Experience generating PDF or Excel-based reports/invoices programmatically.
Business Understanding
- Familiarity with financial or operational data such as invoicing, reconciliation, and partner performance metrics.
- Ability to interpret and translate business rules into clear technical logic.
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
- Organised and proactive, comfortable managing both short-term deliverables and longer-term system improvements.
- Curious and driven to identify and implement better ways of working.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating legacy Excel/VBA processes into modern automated systems.
- Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or other visualisation tools.
- Experience integrating with APIs or working within cloud data environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Background in Finance Operations, Data Engineering, or Business Automation.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer who is passionate about system migration and automation to make a direct impact on LKN’s business growth and operational efficiency. You will have the chance to be part of our transformative journey, integrating AI into our sales, operations, finance, and marketing workflows.
