Data Center Area Engineer - Critical Systems / Commissioning

Job Description:

Responsibilities include assisting in the supervision of overall operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment for all data center(s) within a market, leading to mission-critical uptime of 99.999% or higher. This position will also serve as a technical resource for the Critical Infrastructure, Design, and Construction teams. Identify strategic business opportunities and threats, and develop and implement plans and processes to achieve long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Provide trusted technical and project guidance to the Operations team.
  • Will assist in the development, implementation and administration of new programs and projects, as well as work to improve existing Programs to support site operations, on the approval from the Director of Engineering.
  • Will support the Operations Group with both technical and administrative tasks related to the overall proper operation, maintenance, and training of the facilities nationwide.
  • Will directly supervise and critique work performance by subcontractors to ensure adherence to standards, schedules and specifications.
  • Will find and correct maintenance discrepancies and work with Operations management to resolve site issues based on agreed upon priorities including management support of vendors and sub-contractors.
  • Will support and train new hire personnel in the planning, scheduling and completion of preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance.
  • Will require the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects, have strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to navigate common word processing programs. Operate independently with limited direct management.
  • Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center, escalating to the Data Center Facility Manager as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Flexential staff
  • Develop site solutions to support various key infrastructure and business needs.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
  • Continually drive innovation with a focus on reducing operational costs and mitigating risk in the facility.
  • Configure monitoring/alerting of facility equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have 5 years of direct, relevant technical experience with Data Center MEP equipment operation, construction and maintenance
  • 5+ years of experience within a critical infrastructure environment.
  • Applicable military experience
  • Applicable trade experience
  • A minimum of 30 hours a week will be devoted to work directly related to the Douglasville, GA Data Centers, with your physical presence required at the Douglasville site

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced electrical or mechanical certifications (bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience working in data centers with an emphasis on building and equipment operation.
  • 3+ years of experience in a construction management position

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Walk or stand for 50% of the time.
  • Moderate or advanced keyboard usage.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • On site presence (Douglasville, GA) for 30+ hours per week.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time.

Base Pay Range: Annualized salary range offered for this position is estimated to be $110,000 - $120,000. However, the actual pay range depends on each candidate’s experience, location, and qualifications.

Variable Pay: Discretionary annual bonus, based on personal and company performance.
