Position
This is a part-time ENTRY-LEVEL Data Center Technician (DCT) position. The position is ideal for someone who has little to no experience and is looking to enter the field of IT. On-the-job training sessions and real-world experience will be provided. Data Center Technicians are evaluated for openings in next-level full-time Service Desk positions at SMS Datacenter.
All DCT shifts run 12 hours, between 12 AM and 12 PM, or 12 PM to 12 AM. Flexible availability is a plus, you may be able to take on 1, 2, or 3 shifts each week depending on availability and needs.
Your shift might include the following:
- Monitor, evaluate, and escalate network, server, and facility-related issues to ensure system stability and uptime
- Provide basic troubleshooting support, and work with technical experts within the organization and third parties to resolve problems
- Create tickets for requests for support and provide first-level troubleshooting IT-related issues related to desktops, systems, and networks in multiple unique client environments
- Learn to analyze problems and, depending on the complexity and resolution time constraints, solve them or seek help
- Handle incoming calls, staying on the line when needing to wait for support
- Handle, lift, carry, stack, and move equipment and packages
- Grant access requests
- Handle incidents and follow them through completion, documenting incidents, tasks and troubleshooting done, time required, and other information according to team policies
- Assist with running, tracing, tagging, patching, creating, terminating, and managing cabling
- Keep the data center facilities organized and tidy
- Provide remote hands for engineers as needed
- Work with customers and colleagues respectfully, keeping composure and professionality
- Take on other tasks and requests as needed
What You Should Have
- A passion for IT. You've built your own computer or like tinkering with components
- Adaptability, proactivity, and the willingness to take on and learn from a wide range of tasks as needed
- Desktop support or troubleshooting experience
Physical Requirements of the Role
- Must be able to safely lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis without assistance
- Must be able to safely lift heavier equipment (up to 75 pounds) with team assistance or use of appropriate lifting equipment (e.g., dollies, carts)
- Must be able to reach, bend, and crouch to access equipment in tight or elevated spaces, including server racks at floor and ceiling levels.
- Must be capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the data center environment for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to work on ladders or platforms to manage cable runs or hardware in elevated racks.
- Must be able to do repeated hand and arm movements for cable management, hardware installation, and equipment maintenance.
- Must be able to use proper body mechanics while adhering to safety guidelines to prevent injury
Preferred Candidates Will Have
- At least 1 year of IT experience
- Certifications by CompTIA or other major vendors, or equivalent knowledge
- Servers, networking, and virtualization basics
- Great customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A great attitude

Pay: $17.00 per hour
