$38.25-$58.18 Hourly
however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Position Overview:
The Data Engineer plays a vital role in enabling data-driven patient care and operational efficiency at Pullman Regional Hospital, a rural Critical Access Hospital committed to high-quality, community-focused healthcare. You will design, build, and maintain the hospital’s data infrastructure and automated data pipelines to deliver timely, reliable, and secure access to clinical, operational, and regulatory information. You’ll partner through IT, clinical, finance, quality, and administrative teams to transform raw data into clean, modeled datasets that power reporting, analytics, and AI use cases.
A Day in the Life:
Data Integration & Infrastructure
  • Design, develop, and maintain reliable data pipelines for clinical (EHR), operational, financial, and HR systems.
  • Build and manage ETL/ELT processes to consolidate and organize data in centralized repositories (e.g., data warehouse/data lake/data marts).
  • Operationalize and monitor data services and jobs; implement automated checks, validations, and reconciliations to ensure data integrity.
Data Modeling & Warehousing
  • Develop and maintain structured, well-documented datasets optimized for reporting and analytics.
  • Design data models aligned to clinical, financial, regulatory, and quality reporting needs.
  • Contribute to an enterprise-minded, CAH-appropriate warehouse/lake architecture and data modeling standards.
Reporting & Analytics Support
  • Ensure timely, reliable data access for dashboards, scorecards, ad hoc analysis, grant reporting, and AI/advanced analytics initiatives.
  • Optimize report performance and support extracts from EHR (e.g., Epic), finance, and HR systems; ensure data availability for programs such as MBQIP, UDS, and CMS.
Data Security & Compliance
  • Implement secure data practices in partnership with IT; uphold HIPAA, HITECH, and organizational policies.
  • Apply appropriate access controls, encryption, logging, and monitoring; contribute to risk assessments and cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data flows, transformations, and logic for audit readiness and governance.
Collaboration & Support
  • Partner with department leaders, clinical staff, and vendors to understand data needs and constraints.
  • Create documentation and deliver training to help users self-serve responsibly.
  • Participate in data governance and quality improvement efforts.
About You!
This Job is For You if You Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field; may substitute 4 years industry experience for education
  • 2–4 years of experience in data engineering or closely related software/data roles
  • Familiarity with healthcare data (EHRs; HL7/FHIR/CCD) is a plus; willingness to learn is essential
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI; Tableau a plus).
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational databases (e.g., SQL Server); strong grasp of data modeling principles.
  • Experience with APIs/integration and modern data exchange protocols; familiarity with cloud data solutions.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested, and well-documented code for repeatable workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication/interpersonal skills.
A Wow if You Have:
  • Experience with Python and/or Node.js; strong SQL.
  • Exposure to Epic reporting data models and certifications a plus.
  • Master’s degree (MHA/MPH/MBA) is beneficial but not required.
