Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong AWS and Python coding expertise to join our growing data and cloud engineering team. The ideal candidate will design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and cloud-native data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and advanced data science initiatives. This role requires hands-on experience with AWS services, modern data engineering tools, and relational databases, along with the ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using AWS-native services
- Lead migration and refactoring of legacy data systems into AWS cloud architecture
- Develop data processing workflows using Python (Pandas) and SQL
- Utilize AWS services such as AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, Amazon EKS, and Amazon CloudWatch for orchestration, monitoring, and automation
- Manage and optimize data storage solutions using PostgreSQL and AWS-based databases
- Implement data validation, transformation, and quality checks
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines to ensure high availability and performance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Analytics, DevOps)
- Ensure compliance with Federal data security, governance, and regulatory standards
Required Skills (Must Have)
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services: AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, Amazon EKS, Amazon CloudWatch
- Strong proficiency in Python (Pandas preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL)
- Experience building and optimizing ETL/data pipelines
- Solid understanding of cloud-based data architecture and data modeling
- Must be eligible for a Public Trust
Good to Have Skills
- Exposure to Apache Spark, Polars, or distributed data processing frameworks
- Experience with Spark UI / performance tuning tools
- Familiarity with containerized workloads and Kubernetes (EKS)
- Experience in large-scale AWS data migration projects
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines in cloud environments
Job Details
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST
- Work Location: Hybrid – 1 day onsite per week in Suitland, MD and 1 day every other week in Reston, VA
Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
