Primary Purpose:

The Data Scientist optimizes business processes through the use of predictive models and statistical analysis. Primary activities of the role are to design, create, and tune predictive and machine learning models using scientific methods, and to identify key insights gained in the process. This individual works with leadership and stakeholders to develop and train models from complex data sources to support process improvement, operations, strategy, cost reduction, and increased client and employee satisfaction.

Essential Functions:

Engage with sponsors, stakeholders, and end-users to understand processes and evaluate objectives, requirements, feasibility, goals, and scope.

Translate business objectives into actionable models and establish metrics to monitor progress. Write and review procedures and other process standardization.

Develop and review standardized procedures and documentation to support process consistency.

Integrate and analyze large datasets from diverse sources to create data-driven solutions

Apply statistical methods and machine learning techniques to create actionable insights.

Integrate applications and systems using complex algorithms to bridge architectural components and/or business functions.

Design and implement batch and real-time pipelines for predictive models

Partner with departmental leads to develop and implement machine-learning applications.

Assume responsibility for machine learning code, pipelines and models executed successfully into production while troubleshooting any issues presented

Automate model training and testing through continuous delivery pipelines for machine learning.

Verify algorithm effectiveness and model by designing and implementing metrics while working with end users to validate results

Operate as lead on select projects

Utilize agile practices to develop business solutions

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Experience

Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 3 years’ related experience working with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, R or manipulating data sets and building statistical models
  • OR Associates Degree and 5 years’ experience in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (ai/ml) projects including three years’ experience working with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, R or manipulating data sets and building statistical models
  • OR High School Diploma and 7 years’ experience in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (ai/ml) projects including three years’ experience working with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, R or manipulating data sets and building statistical models
  • Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated experience in testing, training, and deploying predictive models using machine learning and statistical methods
Preferred
  • Degree in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, etc.)
  • Healthcare experience
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world applications
  • Experience with developing, analyzing, interpreting, manipulating, and managing a variety of complex data sets
  • Experience with data mining and visualization tools such R, SAS, Java, Python, Tableau, as well as querying languages (SQL, etc.)

Education

Required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or better
Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Science or related field
  • Master's Degree or better in Computer Science or related field
