Data Scientist

Piper Companies is seeking a Data Scientist to join a highly technical Data and AI organization supporting a large-scale global payments environment. This role will focus on building advanced data science and machine learning solutions that translate complex data into actionable, revenue-driving insights. The Data Scientist will work closely with business, product, and engineering teams to design, test, and deploy models into production systems. The Data Scientist position requires strong technical depth, comfort operating in fast-paced environments, and a passion for applied research. This role is onsite or hybrid in Charlotte NC based on business needs. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsership.

Responsibilities

  • Frame complex business problems using advanced data science, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques
  • Design, build, and deploy scalable machine learning pipelines and production-level models
  • Develop and test models across areas such as recommendation systems, time-series forecasting, optimization, and natural language processing
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage internal and external data for business impact
  • Own critical research initiatives and application development efforts from concept through production
  • Run large-scale experiments and A/B tests to evaluate and improve model performance
  • Contribute to cross-team collaboration and help advance overall data science capabilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related discipline
  • 3 or more years of experience translating mathematical models and algorithms into production-ready code
  • Strong programming experience in Python and Kfka and or C++
  • Solid foundation in probability, statistics, and applied machine learning
  • Hands-on experience with areas such as NLP, time-series analysis, and Generative AI
  • Prior experience working in a highly technical, data-driven research or engineering environment
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Compensation

  • $115.000 -$135,000 annually
