Data Scientist / AI Automation Specialist

Position Summary:

MRB Contractors is seeking a Data Scientist / AI Automation Specialist to develop systems that can process, organize, and maintain large volumes of historical bid and estimating data. This role will focus on building automated solutions that reduce manual work, improve data consistency, and create a reliable internal system for managing bid information over time.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with unstructured and semi-structured business data, designing practical automation workflows, and building tools that support the long-term storage, retrieval, and use of bid-related information.

Key Responsibilities:

● Review and understand existing bid preparation workflows, file formats, and historical records

● Collect, clean, standardize, and organize large volumes of historical bid, estimating, and pricing data

● Build automated systems to extract, parse, and structure data from spreadsheets

● Develop and maintain a centralized system for storing and managing bid information

● Design processes that keep bid records updated, searchable, and usable for future estimating work

● Implement data validation and quality control methods to improve accuracy and consistency

● Build logic and workflows that reduce repetitive manual handling of bid information

● Work with operational stakeholders to ensure the system reflects real business needs and practical usage

● Document data structures, system rules, and workflows for long-term internal use and maintenance

Required Qualifications:

● Experience in data science, data engineering, machine learning, or intelligent process automation

● Strong proficiency in Python and SQL

● Strong experience handling large, real-world datasets

● Experience building automated data parsing, transformation, and ingestion workflows

● Experience working with unstructured and semi-structured documents such as spreadsheets, PDFs, forms, and internal records

● Familiarity with AI tools and techniques relevant to document extraction, classification, and structured data creation

● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

● Ability to build practical systems that are stable, maintainable, and useful in day-to-day operations

Preferred Qualifications:

● 4+ years of relevant experience in data science, data engineering, AI automation, or intelligent workflow automation

● Experience in construction, estimating, bid preparation, job costing, or related operational environments

● Familiarity with construction bid sheets, takeoffs, pricing records, and estimating documentation

● Experience with OCR, document parsing, and extracting data from complex business records

● Experience designing internal data systems or workflow automation tools

● Experience improving data quality and building structured records from legacy files and manual processes

● Experience applying LLMs or AI-assisted tools in production-oriented business workflows

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
