Summary:

The Environmental Data Specialist will be used to support the Environmental, Land and Agriculture Division’s environmental and land data management system. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental data and terminology, land data processes, good communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work opportunity including both in-office and remote work.


Responsibilities:

  • Ability to understand requests from land and environmental subject matter experts.
  • Ability to be a good communicator able to share new functions and features with the users and have a good understanding of environmental data and environmental data terminology along with the land management process.
  • Work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
  • Prepare and update environmental associated reports, understand environmental and land data, transform and analyze large and diversified environmental datasets.
  • Ability to translate environmental and land problems through digital and data solutions. Commitment to data quality at all levels and scales.
  • Responsive to client (user) requests. Excellent communication skills
  • Provide technical support to field sampling teams and act as a liaison between the project staff, analytical laboratory, data validator, and GIS analysts.

Skills:

Nonessential:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to understand data management using excellent computer skills to perform transformations in spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience with land and environmental data and database systems (MS SQL Server, MS Access).
  • Ability to continually analyze data at all stages for problems, logic, and consistency concerning field data collection, analytical reporting, and other experience with ArcGIS.
  • Assist projects that span across the Division for managing data (land records, environmental and field data and chemical laboratory data) for Divisional and Area report writing and grant reporting as required by the Division.
  • Maintaining and updating various project dashboards using the Outlook 365 and related tools and preparing report-ready data tables, charts, and figures for internal review and Divisional reports.
  • Use of visualization tools like Power BI to help management make effective decisions for the environmental domain is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities.

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Associates Degree in Computer science, Information Technology (IT), Management
Nonessential:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science

Credentials:

Essential:
  • Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
  • Insurance Required


Working conditions:

Essential:
  • office or home setting

Experience:

Essential:
  • Previous data design and analysis in a business environment.
Nonessential:
  • Data engineering, AI/ML, and Data science understanding in either academic or work experience.
  • Experience working in the environmental domain and working with environmental data along with understanding of land acquisition, record keeping and land use processes.
  • Intermediate to expert level understanding of Office 365, Excel, power query & Power automation.
  • Programming and/or coding experience (e.g., Python,R).

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
