This position works collaboratively with a variety of staff and users to design, build, and maintain data systems that support the College’s enterprise applications and institutional needs. The Data Systems Engineer provides programming and analytical support for both existing and new enterprise systems, including customization, integration, testing, documentation, reporting, and troubleshooting. This position supports the College’s transition to modern cloud-based solutions by assisting with the development and maintenance of an AWS-hosted data warehouse that integrates data from large college systems. The position performs as a collaborative interface with AWS and other campus partners to develop and populate secure data lakes from a variety of operational and educational systems. The engineer develops and maintains scripts, APIs, and applications that automate data workflows, improve system efficiency, and ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and security of institutional data.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
OR
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field with professional certifications (i.e. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified Data Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, CompTIA Data+ or CompTIA Cloud+, etc…)
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge:
Programming and software development using C#, .NET, Python, and Visual Studio
SQL and relational database management, including stored procedures and data modeling
JSON, RESTful web services, and API development for data integrations
Cloud data infrastructure concepts, for example: AWS data storage, ETL, and data warehouse design
Data governance and compliance standards, including FERPA and institutional data privacy policies
Software engineering concepts, including version control (GIT), testing, and documentation
Understanding of data governance frameworks and security best practices
Skills:
Creating and managing integrations between multiple enterprise systems and cloud platforms
Using enterprise reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Argos, Tableau, or AWS)
Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data to support institutional decision-making
Experience developing ETL pipelines or maintaining a cloud-based data warehouse
Experience with data warehousing for large institutions
Abilities:
Work collaboratively as part of a cross-departmental team as well as independently
Manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment with multiple concurrent projects
Translate business and reporting requirements into technical solutions
Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, and the public
Stay current with emerging technologies related to cloud data infrastructure and software development

Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or equivalent cloud experience)
Experience with Ellucian Colleague or a similar higher-education ERP system, including familiarity with related business processes.
Required Training
Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution
Work Hours
8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday
Evenings and weekends as necessary.
