What You’ll Do
The individual in this position reports directly to the assistant technology officer of infrastructure. This position maintains and modifies databases; analyzes system performance; designs and writes queries, scripts, and packages; designs, documents and implements system and server processes including security, access, test routines, and back up; troubleshoots and resolves malfunctions; writes systems documentation; create and schedule jobs; creates and responds to alerts and assists with development efforts. This position works in our office in Jefferson City, Missouri but is eligible to work from home one to two days a week after 90 days of employment.
How You'll Spend Your Time
- Writes complex SQL queries, reports and stored procedures.
- Creates, monitors, optimizes and maintains databases.
- Administers SQL databases, monitoring backups, space utilization, and software updates.
- Responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of standard database maintenance processes. The maintenance should include database consistency checks, index defragmentation, index statistics management, and any other items needed to guarantee the ongoing health of all databases.
- Archives/deletes expired data.
- Assists with security of the data systems and associated hardware.
- Verifies and maintains the integrity of information in multiple databases.
- Performs data refresh activities for lower environments.
- Evaluates software to support system integrity and design.
- Writes clear documentation.
- Performs system upgrades.
- Experience with data warehouse analysis and design.
- Writes and tests scripts used to build, restore, dump, and/or maintain databases.
- Uses system commands and protocols to maintain database server and/or databases.
- Lead data modeling, mapping, integration (SSIS), and capacity planning efforts.
- Perform database enterprise environment capacity planning and availability management.
- Responsible for identifying poor performing queries and coordinating their resolution with the appropriate development or production support resources.
- Documents procedures and provides user information and training materials.
- Troubleshoots and resolves malfunctions with databases, servers, operating platform/database interfaces.
- Confers with end-users to identify user needs, and with vendors regarding programming and/or systems design.
- Estimates time and resources needed for projects, develops project schedules, and may help end users prepare service request forms.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
Our ideal candidate is passionate about IT application development and has the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with at least fifteen (15) semester hours in computer science, computer information systems or closely related areas. [Computer information technology systems experience such as computer programming, systems analysis and design or work with primary responsibility for the configuration of computer hardware and software in a mainframe, midrange and/or microcomputer environment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the stated education.]
- Five years of professional and technical computer information technology systems experience such as computer programming, systems analysis and design, or work with primary responsibility for the configuration of mainframe, midrange and/or microcomputer hardware and software, network administration or closely related areas.
- Basic knowledge of networking.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL Server Databases including SQL Server 2022.
- Experience with MS Power BI.
- Experience with MS SQL programing and SQL Server Management Studio.
- Experience with MS Visual Studio Data Tools.
- Prefer experience with Always On availability groups and Windows Clustering.
- Knowledge of relational database management systems.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of relational database design and administration.
- Working knowledge of Windows system administration. Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and electronically) with users, peers, and support personnel on technical aspects of the system.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to demonstrate integrity and a high degree of ethics.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with MOSERS staff, MOSERS members, outside vendors, and other contacts.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
