Database Engineer

Air Force Experience Required


We are seeking a Database Engineer to support the ESCAPE program and broader enterprise data initiatives. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing database systems that support analytics, reporting, legacy system migration, and cloud-based operational data environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational SQL databases, including SQL Server
  • Build and support data pipelines and integration workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks
  • Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and storage management
  • Support migration of legacy USAF systems into a cloud-based operational data store
  • Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance requirements
  • Partner with software engineers, data analysts, and DevOps teams to support data access and integration
  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Automate routine database tasks using Python or PowerShell
  • Document database processes and provide technical support, health checks, and operational reviews

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in database engineering or database administration
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, or Teradata
  • Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and schema design
  • Experience with data pipelines, ETL, and system migration efforts
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments and tools such as Jira
  • Experience supporting Air Force or DoD programs is preferred
  • Knowledge of DoD data security and compliance standards is a plus
  • Certifications in database or cloud technologies are a plus
  • DoD 8140 qualifications or related certifications such as Security+ or CSSLP are preferred

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Clearance

  • Secret clearance preferred
