Database Engineer

Air Force Experience Required
We are seeking a Database Engineer to support the ESCAPE program and broader enterprise data initiatives. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing database systems that support analytics, reporting, legacy system migration, and cloud-based operational data environments.
Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain relational SQL databases, including SQL Server

Build and support data pipelines and integration workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks

Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and storage management

Support migration of legacy USAF systems into a cloud-based operational data store

Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices

Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance requirements

Partner with software engineers, data analysts, and DevOps teams to support data access and integration

Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies

Automate routine database tasks using Python or PowerShell

Document database processes and provide technical support, health checks, and operational reviews
Qualifications

5+ years of experience in database engineering or database administration

Strong experience with SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, or Teradata

Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL

Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and schema design

Experience with data pipelines, ETL, and system migration efforts

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments and tools such as Jira

Experience supporting Air Force or DoD programs is preferred

Knowledge of DoD data security and compliance standards is a plus

Certifications in database or cloud technologies are a plus

DoD 8140 qualifications or related certifications such as Security+ or CSSLP are preferred
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Clearance

Secret clearance preferred
