Director – Job DescriptionPrimary Purpose
The Director is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing all child care program operations. This role ensures full compliance with Texas Minimum Standards, maintains a safe, sanitary, and developmentally appropriate environment, and upholds the high‑quality standards of DearOnes. The Director plans, organizes, staffs, budgets, and evaluates all program activities while supporting children, families, and staff with professionalism and integrity.
QualificationsEducation / Certification
- Associate’s Degree in Child Development OR a minimum of 5 years of related childcare experience
Special Knowledge / Skills
- Minimum 3 years of licensed childcare experience
- Strong understanding of child development and early childhood best practices
- Knowledge of Texas DFPS Minimum Standards and regulatory compliance
- Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to supervise, coach, and evaluate staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters professionally
- Strong time‑management, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities
Major Responsibilities & DutiesRegulatory Compliance & Program Quality
- Demonstrates full working knowledge of and compliance with:
- State Licensing regulations
- Center policies
- Owner and Executive Director protocols
- Any additional accrediting or credentialing agencies
- Ensures all safety standards meet federal, state, and insurance requirements
- Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at all times
- Handles emergencies calmly, professionally, and according to protocol
Child Development & Classroom Support
- Understands developmental stages and models positive social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative learning experiences
- Ensures classrooms follow developmentally appropriate practices and Montessori‑aligned expectations
- Supports teachers in implementing curriculum, routines, and behavior guidance
Leadership & Staff Management
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff
- Makes recommendations regarding placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal
- Monitors staff performance and implements discipline procedures when necessary
- Conducts routine staff meetings and encourages active participation
- Ensures adequate staffing and coverage at all times
Operations & Administration
- Plans, organizes, and manages daily center operations
- Ensures adequate supplies, materials, and food consumables are maintained
- Reconciles attendance records and payroll documents according to center timelines
- Compiles, maintains, and files all required reports and documentation accurately and on time
- Conducts enrollment and supports family communication
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters
Professionalism & Communication
- Communicates effectively with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies
- Responds to parent and staff concerns promptly and professionally
- Makes fair, equitable decisions that support positive outcomes
- Demonstrates high stress tolerance and professionalism in a fast‑paced environment
- Attends professional development to stay current with best practices
Other Duties
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by ownership or executive leadership
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversees all child care personnel and ensures compliance with center expectations and state regulations.
Work Schedule
- Full‑time
- 8–12 hour shifts; must be flexible to meet center needs
- Monday–Friday, day shift
Education
- Associate Degree (Preferred)
Experience
- Licensed childcare: 3 years preferred
