Our Facilities Worker / Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals to students; receiving, storing, and managing food and site supplies; and maintaining sanitation standards related to these activities. This role also includes maintaining general records and inventory associated with the position.
Our Facilities Worker / Cook is responsible for custodial duties throughout the center, including but not limited to sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and other cleaning and sanitation tasks.
The ideal candidate is friendly, hardworking, reliable, motivated, and a strong team player, with the ability to work effectively with adults and children from diverse backgrounds.
Job Requirements:
- Must be at least 25 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to successfully complete and pass background checks with DCFS and DFSS
- Ability to successfully complete and pass a work physical and TB test
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to regularly kneel, stoop, bend, and walk
- Must be fluent in both written and spoken English
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve meals for children under the age 5 from a pre-approved menu provided by our nutritionist;
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen including all food storage areas. Also includes but is not limited too ensuring all thermometers are working properly, checking food items expiration dates, wash and sanitize all dishes, removal of trash, organize and put away all groceries/food orders/non-food items.
- Maintain a clean and organized center which includes but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and disinfecting of all surfaces within and around the building.
- Completing all logs, reports, and paperwork pertaining to the position
Preferred Skills & Credentials:
- Prior experience in food production or foodservice operations
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Knowledge of and ability to maintain compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and City of Chicago sanitation regulations
- Valid Food Handler Certificate and/or Food Service Manager License
