Days & Midnights Med Tech Positions- Part Time Available

JOB SUMMARY

An employee in this position ensures the safe and sanitary administration of medications in a Home for Aged(HFA) Assisted Living environment and is responsible for assisting with the direct care of residents as outlined in the individualized service plan. An employee in this position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Resident Care/Director of Resident Care. Other assigned duties as directed by DRC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Passes medications and completes treatments according to physician’s orders and in accordance with the community policy. Employee practices the 6 Rights of Medication Passing: right resident, right medication, right dose, right route, right time and right documentation. An employee in this role must use proper technique in pouring and preparing medications, and ensuring that proper containers are used at all times.
  • Has knowledge of common medical abbreviations, common dosage forms and routes of dispensing.
  • Awareness of the community’s policy on crushing of medications and ability to use proper technique and supplies when crushing medications.
  • Responsible for the secure storage of all assigned resident medication cabinets and the med cart.
  • Awareness of where allergies are documented for each resident, ability to define an allergy, and understand their responsibility in observing and reporting the signs/symptoms to a Shift Supervisor.
  • Exhibits knowledge of and proper technique for obtaining and recording resident vital signs.
  • Practices proper hand-washing techniques and infection control principles during the medication pass.
  • May be required to give a report to the supervisor on the status of residents.
  • Employees in this position are responsible for using electronic software to document all administered medications, both scheduled and PRN. Documentation in the resident records regarding observations or changes in condition is required.
  • Employee must have an awareness of the community’s policy and process for the destruction of medications; as a result of refusals, holds, etc.
  • Ability to define a medication error and the process for reporting an error that has been made or found.
  • Aware of the process for ordering and receiving medications from the pharmacy.
  • Responsible for notifying shift supervisor of medications needing to be refilled.
  • Understands and complies with residents’ rights regarding medications, refusals, privacy and respect.
  • Exhibits good organizational skills as it applies to maintaining a clean and organized medication cart, cabinet and room. Any equipment used in the administration of medications must be cleaned and sanitized with each use.
  • May be required to assist residents with personal hygiene tasks, and other activities of daily living.
  • May be required to assist with group activities.
  • Compliant with all State and Federal requirements; including but not limited to blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Friendly, courteous manner; highly motivated, patient; excellent communication skills to care staff, supervisors, and residents with varying degrees of abilities.
  • Knowledge of computer PC operations and software e.g. Quick MAR; good organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to be flexible, solve problems, act in a calm manner, carry out oral and/or written instructions; ability to react quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Affinity for seniors and genuine care regarding their well-being with an ability to maintain appropriate attitude and conduct for the welfare of residents; compassionate; demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the resident and an understanding of their rights, the aging process and diseases of the elderly.
  • Display honesty, integrity, dependability and ability to work as a team member, possess good interpersonal skills and maintain a positive attitude toward employment; able to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality of resident information in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to identify your own personal strengths and weaknesses and discuss with supervision.
  • Satisfactory references, background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical and current TB skin test (or chest x-ray) for tuberculosis.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • CNA Certification or minimum of 2 years of experience in health related and/or elder care environment
  • Previous work experience as a Care Staff
  • Completion of the community medication training program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a residential community setting; possible exposure to unpleasant conditions such as cleaning of human waste and bodily fluids to maintain a sanitary environment for residents, visitors and staff of the community.
  • Speaking and hearing required to perform job responsibilities; reading/writing; understanding directions and communicating verbally.
  • Specific vision abilities required include color, vision acuity for items near and far, depth perception and ability to adjust vision focus.
  • Employee must be in good physical health and have the ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, walk-at least 3 miles/day, sit, lift, grasp, perform repetitive motions involving extensive bending/twisting-at least 25 times/day, stooping, pushing, pulling, fingering, wrist motions and foot operations; ability to stand for an extended period of time without significant rest period; possess the strength/stamina to lift more than 100 lbs. with assist.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
