Decision Support Analyst Lead

Position Summary

The Decision Support Analyst is responsible for providing data-driven insights and analytical support to hospital leadership. This role develops, maintains, and interprets clinical, operational, and financial data to support strategic planning, budgeting, cost accounting, service-line analysis, and performance improvement initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain routine and ad hoc decision support reports and dashboards for hospital leadership.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze large datasets from clinical, operational, and financial systems (EHR, ERP, cost accounting, and revenue cycle systems).
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data used in decision-making processes.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the hospital’s cost accounting system.
  • Analyze department and service-line productivity, costs, and profitability to identify operational improvement opportunities.
  • Provide benchmark comparisons using industry data (Vizient, AHA, Kaufman Hall, etc.).
  • Assist in preparing the hospital’s annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide modeling and data analytics to support budget assumptions and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and support variance analyses.
  • Maintain knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies, cost allocation practices, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Recommend process and system improvements to enhance decision support capabilities and data governance.
  • Assist with annual audit and cost report data collection ensuring accuracy

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
    • 2–4 years of experience in healthcare analytics, decision support, or financial planning in a hospital or health system
    • Working knowledge of hospital finance, reimbursement, and cost accounting principles
    • Advanced skills in Excel and experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Qlik) and ERP/EHR systems (Oracle, Cerner, Epic, etc.)
    • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills
    • Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for non-technical audiences
