    TITLE: Dedicated Building Substitute (*Anticipated* Jan-May 2026) – Presumpscot Elementary

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Portland Public Schools has a Dedicated Building Substitute opening available from January to May 2026 at Presumpscot Elementary School. Placed specifically at Presumpscot for the entirety of the assignment, the Dedicated Substitute is onsite daily and able to fill in as needed, assisting with daily classroom functions, implementing lesson plans, and monitoring and supporting students. At times, the Dedicated Substitute may be assigned to the same classroom for multiple days. The Dedicated Substitute plays an essential role in providing continuity and consistency for the students at their assigned school. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for those who are passionate about helping students reach their full potential.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • [Preferred] Prior experience working with children

    CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
    • [Preferred] Active Maine State Teacher Certification (more info)

    EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:
    • School-year position
    • Full Time, 1.0 FTE
    • Position not guaranteed from year to year
    • Pay = $28.42 / hr (standard 7-hour day)
    • - rate to be updated at the start of the school year
    • Eligible for $500 / month toward a PPS medical benefits plan
    • - rate to increase at the start of the school year
    • Earned Paid Leave (EPL) provisions as per Maine law
