Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing chairside support with precision and care.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging technology such as 3D scanners and medical imaging tools, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Manage patient records by updating medical documentation, maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and accurately coding procedures using dental terminology and medical coding standards.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care instructions, and preventive measures to promote long-term dental wellness.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix or Epic, and assisting with billing processes.
- Maintain a sterile environment through aseptic techniques, proper infection control procedures, and knowledge of anatomy to assist with complex procedures effectively.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in dental assisting duties.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix along with experience using Epic or similar medical documentation platforms.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to dentistry.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety standards.
- Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry for efficiency during procedures.
- Experience with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices is a plus; certification in medical coding or familiarity with 3D scanners is advantageous.
