Duties

  • Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth workflow through four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and maintaining an aseptic environment in accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray imaging), including 3D scans when necessary, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
  • Manage medical documentation and records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental to ensure accurate and up-to-date patient information.
  • Perform vital signs assessments and medical history updates to assist in comprehensive patient evaluations.
  • Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow efficiently.
  • Maintain knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy to effectively communicate with patients and team members about procedures and treatment plans.

Skills

  • Proficiency with dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical imaging, and taking vital signs.
  • Experience working with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental; familiarity with medical coding and documentation is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and procedures across general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment such as 3D scanners and X-ray machines accurately and safely.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics; capable of explaining procedures clearly.
