Dental Assistant

Duties

  • Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry
  • Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly
  • Take and develop dental X-rays and 3D scans while adhering to safety protocols and infection control standards
  • Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic to ensure accurate medical documentation
  • Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining proper aseptic techniques throughout procedures
  • Monitor vital signs and medical history to support comprehensive patient care, especially in pediatric dentistry settings
  • Support administrative tasks including greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, and managing medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations

Skills

  • Proficiency with dental software platforms like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
  • Experience with X-ray procedures, medical imaging including 3D scanners, and radiographic safety protocols
  • Familiarity with pediatric dentistry procedures and the specific needs of pediatric patients
  • Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently in four-handed dentistry setups to optimize patient comfort and procedure flow
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with dental teams and provide compassionate patient care
  • Knowledge of medical coding related to dental procedures for accurate billing and insurance processing
