Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize dental instruments using aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff
- Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry by passing instruments and managing dental materials
- Take high-quality X-ray images and operate medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
- Record vital signs, medical history, and other relevant medical documentation while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems like Open Dental to document patient information accurately and efficiently
- Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionist—scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and managing patient flow
- Assist with medical coding for procedures and treatments to ensure proper billing and recordkeeping in accordance with healthcare standards
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, infection control, and aseptic procedures
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Open Dental for managing medical records and documentation
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety protocols
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics
- Certification or training in medical terminology, medical coding, or related fields is preferred
