Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly according to infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Take and develop X-rays and medical imaging to assist with accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collect vital signs and medical history information from patients to support comprehensive care.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient flow efficiently.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and adhere to infection control standards to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Assist with the use of advanced technology such as 3D scanners and medical imaging tools for precise diagnostics.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care, and preventive practices to promote oral health awareness.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting; familiarity with dental assisting procedures is essential.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Ability to operate X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other dental imaging equipment safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records confidentiality and data security.
- Excellent communication skills to interact confidently with patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and medical coding for accurate documentation.
- Flexibility to support various roles within the clinic including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry specialties.
